SOLOGARNACHA Javier Arizcuren
It comes from a family of winegrowers from Quel, in La Rioja Baja. Architect by profession, among his projects are the Marqués de Terán and Finca Los Arandinos wineries and, more recently, the recovery of the historic cellars (16th century) and the complex of buildings (19th century) of the Conde de los wineries. After studying viticulture and oenology at the University of La Rioja and making various trips to national and international wine-growing areas, in 2009 he began to make a small amount of wine in the basement of the family house.
Grenache was the majority variety until no more than 40 years ago in Rioja Baja, currently occupying less than 10% of the planted area. With this wine we highlight the benefits of this variety in a specific place, the high altitude vineyards on the northern slopes of the Sierra de Yerga and their suitability for cultivation.
ELABORATION
Complete destemming and spontaneous fermentation with wild yeast. The Sologarnacha production process follows the principle of minimal intervention, trying to respect the variety and place of origin. Malolactic fermentation and aging for 12 months in used 400 and 500 liter barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Sologarnacha is spicy, with an intense body and aromas of Mediterranean herbs, energetic and spicy red fruits, Sapid with great minerality and length.
