Torre de Ona Reserve
“The value of a singular Terroir”
Grapes
95% Tempranillo blended with 5% of Mazuelo, sourced from the Altos de Vallecilla, Calvo, Martelo and Berzal plots that surround the winery.
Winemaking and ageing
Plots are parcelled out and picked separately. Bunches are hand-picked in 20 kg. crates. Cold soak for all batches. 80% of the blend underwent the malolactic fermentation in new oak barrels (French and Caucasian) so as to portray colour and fresher and fruitier aromas.
Ageing
It was aged for 18 months in French (40% brand new and 35% two-year-old barrels) and Caucasian (25%) oak in order to preserve and highlight the fruity character. Racked three times.
Tasting notes
Medium-high depth, dark-cherry red with an intense garnet-red rim. Clean and bright. Intense aromas, typical of this Rioja Alavesa terroir, with notes of ripe berries (blackberries, blueberries and raspberry jam) against a background of spices, clove, aniseed, incense, tobacco, and mocha. Mild attack with medium body and nice structure. It is well-balanced with sweet tannins. A wine that stands out for its broad and silky aftertaste, where notes of ripe fruit and sweet spices complement those from painstaking barrel ageing.
Pairing
The perfect match to all kinds of stews, casseroles and meat-based recipes. Also ideal with spicy sauces and medium-aged cheeses.
