Txakoli Jaun Zuria

The first information we know about Jaun Zuria dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, first with Count Barcelos in the Livro das linhagens (1288-1346) and later with Lope García de Salazar in the Chronicle of the Seven Houses of Vizcaya and Castile. Count Barcelos recounts that a brother of the King of England arrived on the coast of Bizkaia, was elected Lord and had a confrontation in Busturia with Count D. Moniño de Asturias and that he defeated and killed him.
On the other hand, Lope García de Salazar narrates that the daughter of the King of Scotland arrived in Mundaka with his servants, she became pregnant by a devil they call culebro1 (according to Jose M. de Barandiarán, Culebro or Sugaar, Lord of the House seems to be that devil of Bizkaia from the 14th century) and gave birth to a son whom they called Don Zurián (Don Blanco).
These two authors collect what will be a myth of origin, the legend justifying the creation of a manor, the legend of Jaun Zuria, the first lord of Bizkaia. The Biscayans chose him as captain to attack the army of the King of León, which he defeated at Arrigorriaga and later he was elected Lord of Bizkaia under the name of Jaun Zuria. There is even an oil portrait of him, from the 16th century, and it is also the first to appear on the list of the Casa de Juntas de Gernika-Lumo.

ELABORATION
The Txakoli Jaun Zuria is classified in the Bereziak (special) section in the regulations of the D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina, due to the 8 months of aging on its lees.

TASTING NOTE
The Txakoli Jaun Zuria is pale-yellow in color with greenish reflections. Clean and bright with medium-high aromatic intensity; notes of white fruit. A very special nose, nice, clean and fresh. Light on the palate with a fairly bodied mid palate despite its low alcohol content , and a long , very pleasant , round finish , with personality and also with that lemony finish .

The suitable temperature for consumption is 10-12º C.
