BAIGORRI Finca La Canoca
The winery is designed to fully respect the integrity and richness of the grapes. Located in the town of Samaniego and under the Sierra de Cantabria is Bodegas BAIGORRI, a glass box perfectly integrated into its surroundings, which emerges in an emblematic place in the Rioja Alavesa. Inside, the winery has the most advanced technology, the result of technical experimentation. It is framed within a process of continuous improvement and develops numerous research projects.
The great contribution of the Mazuelo variety makes this wine really different from what BAIGORRI has accustomed us to. A new definition of freshness and elegance in a red wine, highlighting fine tannins and a great aromatic complexity, fulfilling all the parameters of a pure avant-garde wine.
ELABORATION
Finca La Canoca is a toponym of the area where the vineyard is located. Difficult to access in the foothills of the Sierra de Toloño, right at the foot of the Peciña district, belonging to the municipality of San Vicente. This wine is a tribute to the vineyard in the silent valley where the predominantly Tempranillo grapes are left to ripen. The vineyard keeps a great secret, with just 10,000 bottles of production, this is its second vintage on the market. The age of the vineyard is irrelevant if we think about the characteristics of this calcareous soil and its altitude of more than 600 meters. It is one of the last vineyards to be harvested precisely because in the valley time does not pass so quickly and its harvest requires care and attention. After the manual harvest and in boxes, we select the grains to ferment them with native yeasts in 5,000-litre French oak vats to later carry out the malolactic fermentation in barrels from century-old oaks at 20 degrees.
It has a lot to say and little to tell if we think that the history of this wine is about to be written… It is the senses and perceptions that make a wonderful wine and our second vintage is born with the feeling of better new times.
VINEYARDS
Vineyards from a single estate located at an altitude of 640 meters, on the slopes of the Sierra de Toloño, in the town of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rioja), with a north-south orientation and clay-limestone soil. The vines are over 50 years old.
TASTING NOTES
Intense ruby color with aromas of ripe fruit and spices. In the mouth, its balance and freshness are surprising. Its unctuousness and unique style stands out, with great potential throughout its length and very marked by the terroir that makes it incomparable in the La Canoca area.
