2014 was a moderate harvest in terms of quantity, but excellent in quality. A rainy and cold spring started the vegetative cycle, so the number of clusters formed was limited. The maturation of the fruit was perfect due to the excellent previous weather conditions, thus obtaining an excellent sanitary state of the grapes.
The good weather accompanied the harvest, helping a simple and uncomplicated management of the campaign. The grapes with which the Sea of Frades Finca Valiñas is made come from vines over 30 years old. Hand selection of all the grapes is essential to control the irregular maturation of the different plots. Before the grapes reached the maceration, 15% of the clusters were discarded. The maceration takes place during 20 hours in cold. Once the fermentation began, part of the wine was put in French oak barrels for about 6 months, the rest of the wine continued its aging in storage on its own lees, being periodically removed from lees.
The Sea of Frades Finca Valiñas presents a bright straw golden color, with fine aroma of fruits and flowers. It has a structure and creamy with a wide and powerful mouth, with salty touches. Its mellow character and fresh acidity auguran a great evolution in the next years.
At low temperature its flavor is appreciated intensely. Between 8ºC and 10ºC is the appropriate temperature of consumption. The thermochromic label will indicate the right time to consume it.
