In 1970, the Ostatu Winery was born, attached to the stately building built in the 18th century as an inn-inn at a strategic point such as the road between Laguardia and Vitoria-Gasteiz and which has served as a family home until 2009. A place in the Matarredo de Samaniego neighborhood, where the Sáenz de Samaniego family has been making wine for generations. A heritage that we share with you so that you can live and feel our passion and love for the Rioja Alavesa vineyard and enjoy our winery and wines.
Its past as an inn-venta, in Basque Ostatu, has imbued them with that hospitable character in which everyone is welcome. A place where they make and preserve wine in an artisan way and where the essence of tradition is breathed, in spaces such as the txoko, the wine bar, the patio or the spectacular memory room where the older vintages and which was nominated for the 2018 Restaurant&Bar Design Awards in London.
Grapes from vineyards located in Samaniego, with an average altitude of 580 meters. Combination of clayey, calcareous and gravel soils, ocher color. The subsoil structure is formed by several layers of white rock.
Light cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation in a small capacity tank, for 12 days at a maximum temperature of 26ºC. A part of whole grape carbonic maceration and the rest destemmed. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. 12 months of permanence in second-use barrels. The wine has not undergone any stabilization process. With a light filtration before bottling
The Ostatu crianza is characterized by its balance and renewal. A crianza with character and body made with Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo and Garnacha from 35-year-old vineyards. Faithful reflection of the spicy character of Tempranillo from Samaniego.
Intense cherry red with purple reflections. It gives us a very fruity nose (black and red fruit in season), very fresh, with hints of balsamic and hints of spices and some toasted notes, rounding off its expression. On the palate it is juicy and its mid palate is firm, stylized and fresh, leaving us with a fruity and pleasant sensation of a balanced body where notes of blackberry, cherry, red and black plums and a touch of licorice appear. Memories of nuts, woodwork and very light roasting.
