904 Grand Reserve
Vintage
It was characterized by the good weather that accompanied especially the final phase of grape ripening. The vegetative cycle was long and concluded with a long and selective harvest depending on the evolution of the maturation of each vineyard, allowing most of the grapes to enter the winery at its optimum point of maturity, with excellent health and with a good balance of the different quality parameters: alcohol content, polyphenols and acidity.
Vineyards
Tempranillo (90%) and Graciano (10%) from vines over 40 years old in vineyards in Briñas, Labastida and Villalba.
Winemaking and ageing
The alcoholic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28⁰ C for 15 days. Then, the selected lots completed the malolactic fermentation naturally in 98 days. In April 2008, the selected wines were transferred to 4-year-old American oak barrels, where they remained until April 2012. During their aging, they were re-used every six months by the traditional barrel-to-barrel method. The final coupage was bottled in November 2012.
Tasting
Color red wax with ruby edge, clean, bright and lively. The nose has a high complexity, creamy bouquet, with spicy notes, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, chocolate powder, tobacco box and a background of undergrowth that give way to compote of red fruits and cherry liqueur. Tasty on the palate, with good texture, it is balanced and fresh on the palate, with tamed and elegant tannins. Its long, persistent and refined aftertaste with notes of sweet tobacco, cedar and spices, cherry liqueur and coffee caramel highlights. A classic from Rioja that stands out for its freshness and long aging capacity in the bottle.
