Alma Tobía Author Rosé Fermented in Barrel
Bodegas Tobía is a project based on the passion for making quality wines, and the love for a land named after wine.
After the first location in the family facilities of San Asensio, Bodegas Tobía moves to Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón in search of the ideal environment that our wines demand. A necessary change marked by the philosophy that Óscar Tobía intends to instill in his creations: modern facilities for the production of modern and complex wines marked by the location and quality of the land.
WINEMAKING
This vintage has a marked Atlantic character due to its slow and late maturation. Despite having been a very complicated year due to the abundant rains in spring, and the affectation of several local hailstones before the harvest, the health of the grapes has been very good. The benevolent weather, throughout the harvest, has allowed us to wait to set the optimum harvest time and to be able to plan the harvest in a very staggered way. In general, it has been a more productive vintage than its predecessor, very similar to 2016. Very balanced in parameters, with wines with lower alcoholic strengths than in 2017, but more refreshing.
ELABORATION
Minimalist vinifications separately from the 3 vineyards. Pre-fermentation maceration of the awakened grapes, without crushing, for 48 hours at a low temperature. Bleeding of the tear must. Gentle fermentation of the clean must at a controlled temperature in new fine-grained Alllier French oak barrels, water-tamed and light medium toast. Aging with periodically stirring the lees for 5 more months in the same new French oak barrels. “Assemblage” of the 2 varieties at the end of the barrel aging. Bottled in March 2019.
TASTING NOTES
Very bright intense raspberry pink color. Original, powerful, deep and subtle floral and fruity aromas such as raspberries, strawberries and currants, projected with notes of fine aromatic herbs (mint and eucalyptus), on an integrating background of smoked, toasted and coffee. Balanced, refreshing and with an extraordinary roundness on the palate, which also highlights its enormous freshness, volume, unctuousness and a great enveloping sensation. Great persistence and a subtle, very elegant bitter note.
Limited production: 15 barrels.
