Conde de los Andes Garnacha
We have something of Conde de los Andes to tell. A very special launch. A new illusion. A small production that enhances the wine catalog of our historic brand. That connects us with the past, literally; not only because the wine has matured in stages of the 16th and 17th centuries, but also because a good part of the vines from which its grapes come were planted no less than in 1910!
After introducing the Conde de los Andes Chapter I. Malvasía to the market, we have Chapter II here: our Garnacha de las Viñas de Briñas, one of the northernmost Garnachas that can be found in the Iberian Peninsula. Los “chapters” is a new range of Conde de los Andes limited edition wines that express specific aspects of our vineyards.
The wine is the fruit of time, an exceptional terrain and a bold oenological decision. The satisfaction we feel when presenting this limited edition of 1,162 bottles to the market is enormous, as well as the pride of being a unique contribution to a long history of viticulture in this wild corner between Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa.
One of the main features of this wine is the extraordinary freshness that its high and well-integrated acidity gives it. The key to this characteristic can be found in the location of the two vineyard plots, located at almost 600 meters of altitude, in the area known as Viñas de Briñas. It is a valley under the cliff of Peña Las Heces, in the massif of the Sierra de Toloño. Our vineyard plots form the head of this valley, right on the edge of the rugged hillside. The environment is unique and an expression out of the ordinary, to which are added stunning views of the Ebro valley.
The altitude, the microclimate, the clay-calcareous soils of great aptitude for the vine, the high age of the vines and, as a result, the depth of their roots … all this set of factors explains the aromatic intensity of the wine – its florality and memories of undergrowth— and its mouth of great freshness and harmony, with the subtly sweet and balanced finish typical of the best Garnachas.
A great wine with which our Conde de los Andes brand reaches new levels of identity and affinity with its origin.
ELABORATION
After a gentle awakening and crushing, it is incubated by gravity in French oak vats. Cold maceration and fermentation for 20 days with native yeasts. After the fermentation period, it goes to French oak barrels, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation. It matures for 16 months in the same barrels and another 12 months evolving in the bottle before being marketed.
TASTING NOTES
It is cherry red, vivid and deep, with violet reflections. Florally intense on the nose, with hints of violets and lilacs. It offers aromas of red fruits, undergrowth scrub and balsamic notes. Balanced, with subtle smoky notes. In the mouth it is fresh and pleasant. Fine and balanced power, with a delicate, long and sweet finish.
